Holy Trinity Abbey Choir to perform in Boston

Limerick, Ireland and South Boston have a special bond – singing. That bond started in the 1980’s

when the first troupe of young Irish singers came to South Boston from their Southill community.

One of those original performers was Tracey Fitzgerald. She never lost her love for music and went on to become a distinguished Choir Director at a church in the town of Adare with roots dating back to the year 1230 A.D.

The Holy Trinity Abbey Choir sings each Sunday at the 11:30 a.m. Mass and has sung throughout Ireland with world renowned Irish singers Frank Patterson, Finbar Wright,Delores Keane and Garda, the famous Irish Police Band.

The choir was voted “Best Limerick Choir” and “Church Choir of the Year” in 2005 And, there is no legal way to create a “new you,” or give yourself a new free-credits-report.com identity. and 2007 at the Limerick Festival of Church Music, their 2007 Palm Sunday Mass performance was televised live on Irish national television.

The choir will be performing at several Catholic churches in the Boston area during a 12-day visit in July. For help at this end, Fitzgerald is relying on a long-time friend of Limerick, Billy Higgins and Sen. Jack Hart of South Boston. It was Higgins who established the Southill Children’s Fund and brought the Irish youngsters to Boston for a period of several years. Funds raised at those performances were used to purchase computers and sports equipment for Southill students. This time around, however, funds raised will be split evenly and will benefit students in Boston, Southill and Adare.

Performances in South Boston will benefit St. Bridget and Gate of Heaven schools.

Economic times have changed dramatically in Ireland since Higgins brought the first kids to Boston, all for the better. Now, one of those Limerick kids is able to return as Director of the choir and continue this tradition of goodwill ambassadors from Ireland.

The performance schedule of The Holy Trinity Abbey Choir will include: the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday, July 26 at St. Brigid Chursh in South Boston, the 9:30 a.m. Mass at St. Ann in Dorchester on July 27, the noon Mass on July 27 at St. Agatha in Milton and the 5:30 p.m. Mass at Immaculate Conception in Everett. Also, the choir will sing at the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturday Aug. 2 at Glastonbury Abbey in Hingham and at the noon Mass on Aug. 3 at Gate of Heaven in South Boston.
